We work with local utilities on incentive programs, present project analyses and provide turnkey energy efficiency project solutions for our customers. Our focus is on high ROI lighting, mechanical and energy management systems.

Headquartered in Worcester, Massachusetts, with a branch office located in Cromwell, Connecticut, WEES is primarily focused on serving commercial, industrial, and institutional customers in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented professional with a proven record of producing results through an experienced team and possess the ability to develop and grow new team members. This individual should be extremely organized, detailed oriented and able to balance multiple responsibilities and priorities.

As Director of Operations you will be responsible for running the entire organization and overseeing every department and team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of our business including but not limited to marketing/lead development, sales management, pre- and post-sales support, project management, and managing utility and customer relationships. The ideal candidate will have direct experience in managing a sales organization with demonstrated results and year-over-year growth.

A successful candidate must have experience working in the commercial/industrial business sectors with direct experience in energy efficiency being a plus. Other useful skills would be experiences relating to the lighting industry, business development, financial control and quality management.

The Director of Operations reports to the President and Vice President, and will work collaboratively to lead our continued growth and transformation, and to meet the increasing opportunities within the market space. In this environment, the Director of Operations will build a mature organization capable of delivering on its long-term vision. Specifically, they will ensure that the current strategies for organizational and business development, quality service delivery, financial growth and sustainability, risk management and compliance, marketing, culture, and technology are effectively implemented, monitored and reported.

This position will have responsibility for the Worcester MA, Cromwell CT and Stratford CT offices in which a presence will be required on a regular basis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day operation leadership to a team of on-site and remote staff who are located in Worcester, Cromwell and Stratford;
  • Work closely with cross functional leadership in Sales, Project Management, Finance & Executive leadership to execute on short-term sprints and long-term planning;
  • Define and document complex business requirements and processes, and identify any necessary realistic and effective solutions;
  • Reviews and approves all standard documentation including contracts, change orders, statement of works, etc.
  • Analyze and evaluate information, data and feedback in order to make strategic decisions, solve problems, penetrate markets and develop product offerings;
  • Provide guidance and direction to subordinates, including setting performance standards and monitoring performance;
  • Work with Executive Team to identify and implement organizational improvements in order to achieve or exceed goals necessary for the fulfillment of the company vision;
  • Works with the Energy Specialists to build an understanding of customer needs and expectations and identifies opportunities for ongoing sales of products and service offerings;
  • Works with Human Resources and Executive Team to formulate staffing plans, recruit new team members as needed, conduct performance reviews and train staff;
  • Responsible for maintaining year-over-year sales growth;
  • Reviews and analyzes energy efficiency projects with staff;
  • Works with Project Management team to review and provide oversight on the overall construction process and project schedules;
  • Works with Executive Team to transition, maintain, and build upon key Utility relationships;

  • Exceptional project management skills and a track record of executing and delivering projects on time despite setbacks;
  • An understanding of business and management principles, leadership strategies and strategic planning.
  • Flexibility and the ability to manage and prioritize a wide range of tasks;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills along with good presentation skills;
  • Skilled in devising scope and specifications for cost-effective solutions;
  • Budget development and oversight experience;
  • A demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace;
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in Excel, Word, QuickBooks and Outlook;
  • Ability to work collaboratively and manage in a team-oriented environment;
  • Ability to travel between company offices, and to customer and utility sites;
  • Persuasive with details and facts;
  • Team player and willing to assist the team to accomplish tasks;
  • Willingness to assume other duties as needed for the benefit of the organization.

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in business preferred;
  • A minimum 10 years of direct experience managing employees and teams is required;
  • A minimum of 6 – 8 years’ experience with business operations, sales and business development and project management is required;
  • A minimum 5 years of progressive experience in the energy efficiency marketplace is required;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial management and budgetary responsibility is required.
